HPI Focuses on Conservation
So, what happens when affordable housing meets green building? St. Denis Senior Apartments happens. St. Denis, developed in partnership between HPI and Catholic Charities, will be home to 34 low income seniors. The apartments are expected to open this spring.
St. Denis Apartments will be the first multi family Energy Star rated building in Louisville, possibly in the State of Kentucky. During construction we recycled
- 20 tons of metals
- 254 tons of concrete from footings, foundations, slabs and sidewalks all crushed and reused as fill.
- 691.7 tons of asphalt from the existing parking lot.
In all, over 1.93 million pounds of recycled materials have been used in the construction of St. Denis Apartments, which is 56,806 pounds per unit.
We have also installed a solar water heating system that will provide a savings of approximately $160 per year to residents.
